The Indian Army successfully concluded Exercise Swavlamban Shakti, an integrated fire and manoeuvre exercise, held at the Babina Field Firing Ranges from 17th to 22nd October 2024. Focused on testing and integrating indigenous technologies under the Government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, this large-scale drill included over 1,800 personnel, 210 armoured vehicles, and 50 specialist vehicles. The exercise showcased cutting-edge New Technology Equipment (NTEs), developed by key defence industry players like DRDO, Tata Advanced Systems, and Bharat Forge, shaping the future of combat strategies for the Indian Army. Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, attended the event’s culmination and praised the Army's focus on self-reliance and technological advancements. He emphasized how innovations like swarm drones, laser-based communication systems, robotic mules, and long-endurance UAVs are transforming the Army’s capabilities, demonstrating India's leadership in defence technology innovation. These technologies were tested under battlefield conditions, further integrating them into the Army's Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) to enhance combat readiness. A highlight of the exercise was the Southern Star Drone Mela, which took place on 21st and 22nd October. The event offered a platform for MSMEs, startups, and defence innovators to showcase their latest drone and anti-drone technologies, highlighting government support for the burgeoning drone industry. This exercise not only reaffirmed the Indian Army's commitment to modernising its forces but also emphasized the importance of private sector collaboration to meet the evolving requirements of the future battlefield.
