In what is one of the most remarkable comebacks in US presidential history, Republican leader Donald Trump has become the second US President in over a century to secure non-consecutive terms since Grover Cleveland in 1897. His win over Vice President Kamala Harris capped off a historically tumultuous campaign that included two assassination attempts against him. Trump won in more than half of the 50 US states, including key battlegrounds Georgia, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, two of which voted Democratic in the last election. He currently has 276 electoral votes, well above the 270 needed to win the presidency as Harris faltered in swing states and stood with 223 votes. “We have proven our critics wrong. This is going to be a golden age for America," Trump said in a press conference as he is on the cusp of a second White House term next year. His running mate JD Vance also spoke at the event and said, “This is the biggest political comeback in history."
