Texans Brace for Beryl: Evacuations and Preparations Underway

Beryl strengthened and again became a hurricane on July 07 as it headed toward Texas. Texans prepared for the powerful storm as it lashed the coast with rain. Coastal residents boarded up windows, leaving beach towns under evacuation orders. The hurricane sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph), as per National Hurricane Center in Miami. It was moving northwest at 10 mph (16 kph). The storm was projected to come ashore early on July 08 in the middle of the Texas coast. As the storm approached the coast, Officials warned locals of power outages. Officials worried residents & vacationers in Beryl’s path hadn't heeded evacuation warnings. Tropical storm winds extended 115 miles (185 kilometers) from the center. Residents were warned to be prepared for possible flash flooding.
