Who Is Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi? India’s Next Chief Of Army Staff
Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi has been appointed as the new Chief of Army Staff. Lt Gen Dwivedi will be taking over his appointment on June 30. He will be succeeding Gen Manoj Pande, who is set to retire on June 30. Lt Gen Dwivedi currently serves India as the Vice Chief of Army Staff. Lt Gen was commissioned into the Indian Army's Infantry (J&K Rifles) in December, 1984. In his nearly 40 years of illustrious service, he held a number of positions in Training, Staffing, Commanding, and overseas deployment. Lt. Gen. has served the positions of DIG, Assam Rifles (East), Brigade (26 Sec Assam Rifles). He also served as the Command of Regiment (18 J&K Rifles). Before being appointed as the Vice Chief of Army staff, the Lt. Gen. served in the Northern Command. He held the post of DG of Infantry & General Officer Commanding-in-Chief from 2022 to 2024. Lt. Gen Dwivedi is a graduate of Sainik School Rewa, National Defence College, and US Army War College. The Gen officer has attended the DSSC Wellington and Army War College, Mhow. He was conferred 'Distinguished Fellow' in an NDC equivalent course in the USA. He has an M Phil in Defence & Management Studies. He also holds two Master's Degrees in Strategic Studies and Military Science. The Gen has authored and presented articles in various professional forums & journals. He pioneered the first-ever compendium on Indo-Myanmar Border Management.
