Delhi NCR Registers Max Late-Night Orders, Masala Dosa Most-Ordered, Zomato Reveals
Late-night food delivery in NCR is booming, with Masala Dosa leading as the most popularly ordered dish.
In India, online food delivery platforms have become a great convenience for people, from professionals to bachelors. People can now order their favorite food at any time from restaurants that fit their preferences and budget. Offers from platforms like Zomato and Swiggy are also helping to boost the popularity of these services.
Previously, food delivery platforms could only serve customers in their immediate area, but now they are fulfilling orders from a broader range of locations, maximizing their earnings. Online food delivery platforms are also providing insights into people's eating habits. Zomato recently announced that it earned ₹83 crore from platform fees, with late-night orders being particularly popular in NCR (National Capital Region). Meanwhile, Bengaluru has the highest number of late-night orders.
Zomato started charging platform fees earlier this year, earning ₹83 crore by March. In August, they increased the fee per order from ₹2 to ₹6 in major markets. This trend suggests that Zomato might see significant earnings from these fees in 2024-25.
According to reports, among the top 10 most ordered items in the country, six are vegetarian. These include masala dosa, paneer butter masala, margarita pizza, and pav bhaji. Bengaluru tops the list of cities where most vegetarian orders are placed, with masala dosa, paneer butter masala, and paneer tikka being popular. Masala dosa is the most frequently ordered item.
In Mumbai, people prefer dal khichdi, margarita pizza, and pav bhaji. In Hyderabad, masala dosa and idli are the favorite vegetarian dishes. For breakfast, more than 90% of orders in India are vegetarian, with masala dosa, vada, idli, and pongal being the top choices. Masala dosa is especially popular for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
