Viral news: Popular e-commerce website Meesho has landed in hot water for selling T-shirts featuring gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's image.
The website is selling a range of such T-shirts, with prices as low as Rs 110. Among them is a T-shirt featuring Bishnoi's image with the phrase "Real Heroes" imprinted on it.
An X user shared images of the T-shirts, calling it "India's latest online radicalisation." The user posted screenshots of the Bishnoi merchandise available on Meesho and Teeshopper, commenting, "People are literally selling gangster merchandise on platforms... This is just one example of India’s latest online radicalisation." According to the post, some shirts display Bishnoi's image alongside the word “gangster.”
“At a time when the police and NIA are struggling to deter youth from joining gang crime, social media influencers are cashing in by glorifying gangsters,” he added.
"Shame on Meesho''
The T-shirts have sparked anger among netizens. One user commented, "And a kid also wearing his T-shirt. So wrong." Another remarked, "This should be stopped; we can't encourage the younger generation to think of this gangster as a hero."
Many users criticized Meesho with comments like "Shame on Meesho."
“So Meesho loves gangsters and promotes them on kids' apparels. Wow!” an X user said. “Meesho should be de-platformed,” another opined.
Lawrence Bishnoi has recently been in the news after his gang murdered NCP leader Baba Siddique. He is known for his involvement in high-profile crimes.
