Oregon Bride Heartbroken as Only Five Guests Show Up to Her Masquerade Wedding
Oregon bride Kalina Marie was devastated when only five guests attended her masquerade-themed wedding, despite inviting over 100 people.
Kalina Marie, a bride from Oregon, US, was left heartbroken after arriving at her wedding venue to find an almost empty hall. Despite planning a lavish, masquerade-themed wedding and inviting over 100 friends and family members, only five guests attended. Ms. Marie shared her experience on social media, documenting the moment she and her husband Shane entered the reception with "long faces" as a small handful of people greeted them.
The couple had long envisioned their wedding as a fairytale event filled with loved ones, but what they encountered was "every newlywed's nightmare." In her post, Ms. Marie explained how she had invited 75 people digitally and sent 25 additional invitations for the masquerade ball, a special event she had "talked excessively about for the last 10 months." She revealed the disheartening turnout: "only FIVE PEOPLE SHOWED UP!!!!"
The couple’s son provided a heartwarming moment by walking them down the aisle to Miley Cyrus' song When I Look at You. However, Marie could not help but feel hurt by the low attendance. "The invite said 1 pm…we finally showed up at 2 o'clock, to five people, in a venue planned for 40," she noted.
Despite feeling "a little embarrassed" by the turnout, Ms. Marie and her husband Shane embraced the moment, sharing a dance with the few attendees to make the best of the day. In an emotional update, she admitted they were "still moving through the stages of grief" and grappling with disappointment. The experience left her questioning why they “couldn’t matter enough for people to show up.”
Ms. Marie’s story has since touched many online, with followers offering support and commending the couple’s resilience in the face of a bittersweet wedding day.
