Video Of Palestinian Flag At Muharram Procession Goes Viral, Bihar Police Responds

Darbhanga: Bihar Police have launched an investigation after a youth waving a Palestinian flag at a Muharram procession in Darbhanga district went viral on social media.

The viral video shows a night time procession where individuals waved the Indian tricolor and Palestinian flags, chanting pro-Palestine slogans. This display of support comes amid the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel, which escalated last year following a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7

“A youth was seen waving a Palestinian flag during the Muharram procession in Kilaghat locality on Friday, Munna Khan, head of district Muharram committee said to the police.

The moment it was noticed by the committee members, the Palestinian flag was immediately seized, he added.

The matter has been brought to the notice of the district police which has started its investigation.

"… An investigation has been launched by the police into the matter and appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty. The video of this incident is being examined", Jagunath Reddy, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Darbhanga, told reporters on Saturday. 

Pandey said that the police took cognizance after a video of the incident went viral on Monday and during investigation, identified two accused involved in the act as Sahil alias Badshah and Gorakh.

Sahil was arrested on Monday night while searches are underway to nab Gorakh who is still absconding, the SHO said, adding that a case has been registered against the duo and other unidentified accused under BNS section 197 (2).

Police are currently processing efforts to identify and arrest the other accused involved in the incident, based on the video, adding that further investigation is ongoing.
