New Delhi: The Diwali spirit lit up the US Embassy in New Delhi, where US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, stole the spotlight with a spirited Bhangra performance. Garcetti took the stage on Wednesday, dancing to the popular Hindi song Tauba Tauba from the film Bad Newz. In a lively video of the event, the crowd can be seen cheering on the ambassador as he grooved in a brown kurta and shades, embracing the festive atmosphere.

Since his appointment in May last year, Garcetti has eagerly engaged in Indian cultural traditions. He celebrated Durga Puja at Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park, where he was seen enthusiastically partaking in festivities. Garcetti visited a pandal and sampled classic Bengali dishes like jhaal murialoo-chicken biryanifish curryluchi, and sweets. He even joined in the traditional Dhunuchi Naach, showcasing his appreciation for Indian heritage.

Diwali Celebrations at the White House

Simultaneously, the White House also hosted a Diwali celebration this week, highlighting the contributions of Indian Americans to the US-India relationship. Praising the event, Garcetti shared his thoughts on X, saying, “What a beautiful celebration of Diwali at the @WhiteHouse! As we celebrate the journey of light, we also honor the invaluable contributions of Indian Americans who deepen the #USIndia bond." He continued, “From New Delhi to D.C., may the light of Diwali illuminate every corner of the world and spread the message of peace and prosperity. #CelebrateWithUS #HappyDiwali.”

Held on October 28, this Diwali celebration marked the Bidens' last in office. Both President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden welcomed Indian Americans from across the country. In a statement shared on X, the White House said, "Happy Diwali! Together, may we show the power in the gathering of light."

President Biden expressed his warm wishes, underscoring the festival’s importance and its growing presence within the White House. Over the years, the Bidens have brought a personal touch to this radiant tradition, further strengthening the US-India bond through cultural celebration.
