New Delhi: At the Rashtrapati Bhavan badminton court on Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu played badminton with gold medallist and ace shuttler Saina Nehwal. A brief video of Droupadi Murmu playing badminton was posted on the President of India's official social media account. While posting the images, the Indian President's official social media account penned a message.

“President Droupadi Murmu's natural love for sports and games was seen when she played badminton with the much-celebrated player Ms. Saina Nehwal at the Badminton Court in Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President's inspiring step is in keeping with India's emergence as a badminton powerhouse, with women players making a great impact on the world stage. As part of the 'Her Story - My Story' lecture series featuring women Padma Awardees, Ms. Saina Nehwal, an iconic Indian sportsperson, honoured with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, will deliver a talk and interact with the audience at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre tomorrow.”

Nehwal is scheduled to speak today (Thursday) at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre as part of the 'Her Story - My Story' lecture series, which highlights female Padma Awardees. Apart from this, President Murmu unveiled the President's Cup, the Shimla Trophy, and the coveted Durand Cup earlier on Wednesday at Rasthrapati Bhavan. The Indian football season will begin on July 27 with the 133rd Durand Cup football event, which is also the season opener. The championship game is set for August 31.
