A military plane carrying 83 people from Afghanistan, including Ukrainian servicemen, women and children, landed at Kyiv Boryspil International airport Sunday morning.

Amongst them were 31 Ukrainians, and the rest were foreigners such as international media and humanitarian organisation workers.

"Ukraine helped them to escape and to begin a new life in safe", said Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba.

Kuleba later tweeted, "They're safe in Kyiv. We don't abandon our people and help others. Working on further evacuations."

Hundreds of Western nationals and Afghan workers have been flown to safety since the Taliban reasserted control over the country.

Yet still unprotected, and in hiding, are untold numbers of Afghans left behind.

They include Afghans who worked with foreign forces, and who are now stranded and being hunted by the Taliban, along with aid workers
