Bus explosion in Afghanistan's Kabul kills 7, injures 20

An explosion in Kabul resulted in the deaths of seven people and injuries to 20 others, as reported by the police, on Tuesday, reported Khaama Press. The explosion occurred in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighbourhood of Kabul, an area known to be home to the marginalized Hazara Shia community. The explosion took place in a bus carrying civilian passengers in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul, and the incident was reported on 'X' by the Kabul police spokesman.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Zadran said, "An explosion occurred in a caster car belonging to civilians in Dashte Barcha area of ​​Kabul city, unfortunately, 7 of our countrymen were martyred and 20 others were injured. Security inspection teams have reached the area, more details will be shared later."

The responsibility for the attack was not immediately claimed by anyone, but an affiliate of the Islamic State group has previously targeted Shiite schools, hospitals, and mosques in the same area, reported AP.

In late October, an attack in Dashti Barchi was claimed by the militant group, which resulted in the deaths of at least four people and critical injuries to about seven others. In a statement released through its news agency Aamaq, it was mentioned that the group had "managed to leave a booby-trapped suitcase inside a Shiite gathering place." In recent years, the group has also launched attacks in other Shiite areas of Afghanistan. A campaign of violence has been waged by IS since the Taliban assumed power in August 2021.
