A cautious calm prevailed in areas along the Lebanon-Israel border on Wednesday after a night that witnessed shelling in the tense area.
Israeli shelling triggered some fires in the villages of Aita al-Shaab and Houla and damaged some homes.
Israel's military said Israeli attack helicopters struck observation posts of Hezbollah along the Lebanon border overnight after shots were fired at Israeli troops operating in the area.
It said no Israeli forces were wounded, and there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage in Lebanon.
Earlier, Israeli troops fired flares and smoke shells along the heavily guarded border.
There was no official comment from the Lebanese side and the militant Hezbollah group did not issue a statement.
Israel considers Hezbollah to be its toughest and most immediate threat.
After battling Israel to a stalemate during a monthlong war in 2006, Hezbollah is believed to be far stronger today.
