Close to 30,000 Ethiopians have fled into neighbouring Sudan, burdening villages that have been praised for their generosity, though they have little to give.
Refugees sheltering in Um Rakouba camp in Sudan said they were short of food and water.
Jens Hedemann, the UNHCR emergency response coordinator at the camp, said aid was urgently needed.
The refugees fled following the eruption of fighting between Ethopia's central government and the regional government in Tigray.
