Apple Watch saves biker's life, sends emergency 'hard fall' SOS to Son

The fall detection feature of Apple Watch has been credited again for saving a man’s life. Gabe Burdett, a resident of Washington, shared a Facebook post where he detailed how his father’s life was saved with the help of fall detection feature of Apple Watch. The feature not only alerted him but also alerted the emergency services and updated the location continuously. Burdett received a message on his phone from his father’s Apple Watch that said the Watch had ‘detected a hard fall’.
Apple Watch calls emergency services
“Last Sunday while trying to meet up with my dad for some mountain biking in Riverside State Park (MTB in RSP), I get a text from dad's Apple Watch letting me know it "detected a Hard Fall" with a map to his location. It was not far from our meeting spot,” wrote Gabe in the Facebook post. “Emergency SOS Bob Burdett called emergency services from this approximate location after Apple Watch detected a hard fall. You’re receiving this message because Bob has listed you as an emergency contact,” the message received by Gabe read.
The biker had hit his head and was knocked out
Gabe, in the post, said that he drove directly to the location but his father had already left when he arrived. Then he received another update from the watch which informed him about the changed location which was Sacred Heart Medical Center (SHMC). According to Gabe, his father, Bob Burdett, flipped his bike at the bottom of Doomsday, hit his head and was knocked out until sometime during the ambulance ride. The emergency medical services reached the location, as prompted by the watch in the 911 call, and took him to the hospital.
'Set up your hard fall detection feature'
“Dad is doing great, clear X-Rays and CT scan, but a little sore for sure! IF YOU OWN AN APPLE WATCH, set up your HARD FALL detection—it's not just for when you fall off a roof or a ladder,” wrote Gabe. “Had he fallen somewhere on the High Drive trails or another remote area, the location would have clued EMS in on where to find him. Amazing technology and so glad he had it!” he added.
