In Australia, snakes are ubiquitous and a cause for concern. Residents frequently encounter these eerie reptiles in their homes and offices.
A recent video on social media captured two male snakes battling on a Brisbane golf course. What surprised internet users was that a golfer continued playing next to the fighting snakes, seemingly unfazed by their presence.
In the video, a man continues golfing while two male carpet pythons are seen engaged in a fight just a few meters away. Rather than fleeing, the golfer nonchalantly took a shot as the snakes came dangerously close to him.
The Instagram page which posted the video with the caption, 'Would you still tee off at St Lucia Golf Links,'' highlighting it as Brisbane's most popular public golf course. The video text humorously states, ''Just a couple of snakes enjoying some golf.''
As humans, we are instinctively wired to fear snakes. Thus, seeing a man so casually unfazed in the presence of reptiles left internet users astonished. Many labeled the golfer as ''brave,'' while others commended him for his calm demeanor.
A user wrote, ''Australian people are built differently, we need more of them.''
Another wrote, ''These two snakes are males. They call it combating. They are going to get down and dirty.''
''I want to be this unbothered and brave,'' a third one added.
Australia boasts more than 140 snake species, including 20 of the world's 25 most venomous snakes. Snake bites are relatively common, with around 3,000 incidents annually, but fatalities are infrequent. In September, the local news outlet reported the unfortunate death of an elderly man in Queensland. He succumbed to a snake bite while attempting to untangle it from his friend's leg.
Australia is also the habitat for various venomous creatures, encompassing spiders, snakes, jellyfish, octopuses, ants, bees and even platypuses.
