Beijing: China to mark 70th Anniversary with massive mlitary parade

Beijing - China will be celebrating 70 years of Communist rule, the coming week. Despite the fact that it has been a tough year for Xi, due to recent pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong and the trade war with the US, China plans to celebrate the occasion with a massive military parade in Beijing.  

Government bans Kite, balloon, and lantern flying

The anniversary is meant to celebrate the strength of China, rising from the massive damage caused by wars and famine to becoming a superpower and modern nation, with extraordinary military muscle. The occasion will mark the strong dedication and incredible will power of its youth.

The fact that millions of Chinese, living in the rural areas migrated into cities, helping China to transform both physically and socially by powering the "factory of the world" into the globe's second-largest economy, is one of the reasons to celebrate the occasion. The flying activities are prohibited from Sept. 15 to Oct. 1 to ensure flight safety, in the capital city’s 16 districts.

The notice was published on the Beijing municipal government’s website, on Sunday which also declares the ban on flying balloons and lanterns. The parade is part of a huge ceremony planned at Beijing’s Tiananmen Square to mark the founding of the People’s Republic of China on Oct. 1, 1949.

China to showcase its strongest weaponry

The parade will be held at the Tiananmen Square, on Tuesday showcasing the army's strongest and most advanced weaponry, including 160 aircraft, intending to simulate patriotic fever and support for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) amongst the citizens, with President Xi Jinping at the centre. The government has banned flying kites, drones and captive pigeons over central Beijing for more than two weeks as it progresses with the parade preparations.

Communist forces came into action after defeating Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist Army in a civil war. The Nationalists retreated to the island of Taiwan, where they set up a rival government called the Republic of China. President Xi Jinping is expected to deliver a concluding speech at the show. More than 100,000 people will take part in what is described as “mass pageantry.”
