Bolsonaro supporters promote Trump's candidacy

American elections are being closely watched in Brazil, where President Trump is popular amongst supporters of Jair Bolsonaro, President of Latin America's largest country, who see the U.S. president's reelection as a reflection of support for their own leader.

Edson Delena, a 56-year-old businessman based in Coconut Creek, Florida, has been living in the US for 30 years.

He paid for two Trump billboards in the Brazilian city of Governador Valadares in his home state of Minas, where his family still lives.

He said he decided to do that in order to show his affection for Trump and because, according to him, many of the people in Governador Valadares have relatives and family living in the USA, and he thought it would be a way to reach people living in the US so they could vote for Trump.

"I think people from Valadares can increase his votes. Many friends (from Valadares, living in the US) are calling me and asking how they can vote for Donald Trump," Delena said in a video interview with the AP from his home in the US.

At a rally for right-wing supporters of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, supporters expressed admiration for Trump, and hope he wins the elections on November 3.

"I believe there is a strong connection between Brazil and the United States; Bolsonaro's government has an ideological alignment closer to Trump," said Sao Paulo State Deputy, Oscar Castello Branco during a congress meeting where Bolsonaro supporters looked to expand their base.

The US elections will resonate far beyond American borders, and many Brazilians think the outcome will indicate how their own elected officials will fare when they face elections in their own country.
