BREAKING: South Korea's opposition leader Lee Jae-myung stabbed, in serious condition
South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung is in a serious condition after being stabbed at a press meet in Busan.
South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung is reported to be in serious condition after being stabbed at an event on January 2. The politician was attending a press conference in Busan when he was stabbed in the neck in the middle of a crowd.
The attacker, whose identity has not been disclosed as yet, has been arrested.
Lee Jae-myung is a Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and the leader of the Democratic Party.
He was stabbed on the left side of his neck by an assailant. The opposition leader was on tour at the new proposed airport site in Busan at the Gadeok Island, when the incident occurred. He was rushed to hospital after the attack and is in critical condition.
Jae-myung ran for the presidency in 2022 in South Korea. He lost to Yoon Suk-yeol, the current President of South Korea, who has condemned the attack on Jae-myung.
A human rights lawyer, Lee Jae-myung served as mayor of Seongnam city in 2010.
