Finnish Prime Minister, Annie Rinne and French President, Emmanuel Macron met on September 18 to discuss the topics of Finnish EU Presidency, combating climate change, defending the rule of law and the Union's multiannual financial framework. They together also decided a new deadline of 12 days for Brexit plans. According to Finland's Prime Minister, the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has two weeks to take action on his Brexit plans. They demanded the proposals in writing by the end of this month. Reportedly, they added if the Brexit does not happen soon, then it's over. However, PM Johnson has already made it clear that Brexit shall happen on October 31. Finland currently holds the EU's rotating presidency.

The Meeting

After the meeting, Annie Rinne has said that both leaders have agreed that it is time for the UK PM to produce his own proposals in writing if there are any concrete ones. However, Finnish PM along with French President that on the failure of proposals by the end of September, the “it's over”. The leaders also discussed the new deadline with the President of European Council, Donald Tusk and PM Johnson soon. However, the position has not been agreed with other constituting nations of the European Union. Jacob Rees-Mogg, Commons leader said that the Prime Minister might present a Brexit deal which is fundamentally different, just to ensure that Britain exits the EU on October 31.

EU lawmakers approve the delay

On the same day, September 18 the European Parliament lawmakers have voted in the majority for the favor of yet another Brexit delay. Britain's exit has already been delayed twice, EU lawmakers have promised to reject any deal without a backstop and only Britain will be responsible for a no-deal Brexit. The chief negotiator of the European Union, Michel Barnier also said yesterday that both the UK and EU should not pretend to negotiate on Brexit issue. Especially when there are no more proposals to discuss. He further says that he will work day and night in order to bring a deal that is satisfactory for both parties in the deal. Prime Minister Johnson has a possibility of a crucial summit of European Union leaders on October 17. He has also insisted that Brexit will happen on October 31 even if a deal is not agreed.
