China said Monday it will build a "more integrated and more intelligent" satellite navigation system by 2035, with the now fully operational Beidou system at its core.
Director General of China Satellite Navigation Office Ran Chengqi told a press conference in Beijing the country's positional system would provide high standards "covering the sky, the earth and the sea"
He said the Beidou Navigation Satellite System would work both alongside and as an alternative to Russia's GLONASS, the European Galileo, and the US' GPS systems.
"China has the confidence, the capacity and the wish of promoting the cooperation with the other systems," Ren said.
China launched the final satellite of the Beidou constellation on June 23, with President Xi Jinping making its operation official on July 31, marking a further step in the country's advance as a major space power.
