3 million people tested for Coronavirus in northern China

China began mass testing of three million people in a section of the northern city of Tianjin on Saturday, following the discovery of new domestically transmitted coronavirus cases in the region.

All residents in the Binhai district of Tianjin will be tested according to the local authority's social media page.

The authority has also tested 4,015 others in a hospital in Shanghai.

The mass testing comes after China's National Health Commission recorded 11 new domestically transmitted cases between Friday and Saturday, with four in Tianjin on Friday, and five in Tianjin and two in Shanghai on Saturday.

In response, local authorities sealed off the residential community, as well as a hospital and a kindergarten.

China's total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus is now 86,414.
