French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin on Wednesday described the deaths of 31 people who killed in a boat sinking in the English Channel as a "despicable tragedy."
Speaking outside a hospital in Calais, where the two survivors were taken, Darmanin said those who organise "human smuggling" are "responsible for this despicable situation."
Four suspected migrant traffickers have been arrested.
Two of them appeared in court on Wednesday, and all four are suspected of a link to the sunken boat.
