Toronto: The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau has been facing a lot of disagreement and discontent amid his own party, who have been seeking his resignation and have also been telling him to not run for the fourth them. Amid resignation calls from MPs of his own party, Trudeau has also been facing resignation from his opposition, Bloc Quebecois whose leader has said that the Canadian PM's ‘days are numbered’.

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Faces Resignation Pressure from Opposition

A Quebec nationalist party said Tuesday it will work with other opposition parties in Canada's Parliament to topple Prime Minister Justin Trudeau' s minority government.

Trudeau’s Liberals have only 153 seats in the 338-seat House of Commons and must rely on an opposition party to pass legislation. With the parliamentary election approaching and Trudeau hoping for a fourth term, his party has been trailing the Conservatives in polls with Canadians feeling frustrated by the rising cost of living, coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘Days are Numbered’: Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet

Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet said Trudeau's “days are numbered” after the Liberals failed to meet his demand to boost old age security payments for seniors. However, the party will need the leftist New Democratic Party and the Conservatives — who are eager to force an election — to take down Trudeau’s Liberals.

The NDP has been supporting Trudeau's Liberals but their leader recently announced it would decide based on each proposed bill. The Conservatives have also been leading in the latest Nanos Research poll 39% to 26%, with the NDP following at 20%. The poll of 1,047 respondents has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, according to the Canadian public opinion and research company.

Trudeau Insists on Leading Party to Next Elections

Amid growing dissent, dismissing a request from some Liberal party members, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau affirmed Thursday that he would lead the party into the next federal elections. He said that there were “robust conversations” about what's the best way forward, he said, “That will happen with me as leader going into the next election,” adding that he has the support of the vast majority of the 153 Liberal Party members of the House of Commons.

This comes as on Wednesday, Trudeau met with his Liberal members of Parliament for three hours, where he learned that over 20 lawmakers from his party signed a letter asking him to step down from the top post.

Trudeau's Own Party MPs Demand His Resignation

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has been facing dissatisfaction from the legislators; several Liberals wanted Trudeau to rethink his commitment to stay on as the Prime Minister. After being in the government for nine years, Trudeau's popularity has gone down and several anti-Trudeau MPs have been meeting secretly to gather support against the Canadian PM.

Three Liberals said they were among a total of 20 plus lawmakers from the party to have signed a letter asking Trudeau to step down before the next election. The document signed by the MPs included a demand that Trudeau should make a choice about his future before Oct. 28 or face some unspecified consequences. Some lawmakers in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s own Liberal Party asked the leader not to run for a fourth term Wednesday, handing him one of the biggest tests of his political career.

Why is Justin Trudeau's Resignation Being Demanded?

Trudeau channelled the star power of his father in 2015 when he reasserted the country's liberal identity after almost 10 years of Conservative Party rule. But the son of late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau is now in trouble. Canadians have been frustrated by the rising cost of living and other issues including the country's emergence from the COVID-19 pandemic.
