Russian police detained a drunken man on Tuesday for threatening the crew of a passenger plane flying from a Siberian city to Moscow, and forcing it to land shortly after take-off. The Russian Investigative Committee said that the man told the Aeroflot crew that he was armed and demanded the diversion of the plane after it had taken off from the Siberian city of Surgut. The plane landed in the city of Khanty-Mansiysk, about 230 kilometres (145 miles) to the west.

The plane stood on the runway in Khanty-Mansiysk for more than an hour before law enforcement officials went onboard. The airport was evacuated and the area cordoned off. Aeroflot said no one was hurt.

In a tweet on Tuesday that Aeroflot flight wrote, "Passengers of the flight SU1515, who committed a forced landing at the airport of Khanty-Mansiysk, will be delivered to Moscow by the reserve overboard of the airline".

The investigators said the man has been identified as a Surgut resident who has a past conviction for property damage. He will now face charges of hijacking.

In another incident, a drunk Irish woman misbehaved with the in-flight crew and created quite a scene on an Air India international flight after she was denied more drinks by the crew. She verbally abused the crew on-board a London-Mumbai Air India flight.

According to reports, the woman, who was apparently in the business class of the flight, was already quite drunk and that is the reason the on-board crew refused to serve her more alcohol, keeping in mind the protocol of the flight. She was later handed over to the police at Heathrow Airport as soon as the flight landed in London.
