Duchess Meghan Markle discusses gender equality in South Africa visit

The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle is on her royal tour to South Africa. Markle attended workshops on women empowerment and self-defence during her tour. Recently Markle addressed students and academics at the University of Johannesburg. In the discussion, Meghan Markle discussed the importance of Education for women. The international media reported that she said, women should be supported more to attain higher education in South Africa.

Gender Equality

Meghan Markle talked about gender equality and women's empowerment. She told the group of students and academics, "When a woman is empowered it changes absolutely everything in the community". Her objective was to create awareness among the people that women hold the power to uplift society. The Duke and the Duchess of Sussex are on their 10-day tour, and along with baby Archie, they visited Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

New 'Gender grants'

During the visit, Markle in an announcement disclosed the new “gender grants” for the various Universities which included the University of Johannesburg, Stellenbosch University and the University of Western Cape on Tuesday morning, during her discussion with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). According to the reports of the International media, The Duchess of Sussex overtook the patron of ACU from the Queen in the month of January.In her discussion with the group she also said that the objective is to have gender equality, to provide more support to the woman who progresses in the field of research and various other higher education roles. She further added that true empowerment to women can uplift the entire community and providing them with educational platforms is crucial.

Meghan talks about her experience

Meghan also shared her experience, she said that she was able to receive good education because of financial help from scholarship programs and families providing the necessary funding. Meghan also said that it is very important to have the necessary support to keep up with your progress else the growth on an individual gets stunted.The director of the British Council in South Africa, Susana Glavan greeted the Duchess followed by Professor Tshilidzi Marwala, vice-chancellor of the university simultaneously she witnessed the cheer and joy among her well-wishers. On the other hand, the Duke of Sussex is reported to be visiting a health centre in Malawi. The royal is capturing everyone’s attention. The social media is also flooded with precious moments from their royal tour.
