Elon Musk says new Tesla auto factory will be set up in Berlin
Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, on Nov 12, stated that a new manufacturing factory will be set up in the city of Berlin, Germany in order to cater to the European market.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that a new manufacturing factory will be set up in Germany to cater to the European market. Elon made the announcement on November 12 during a function at the Golden Steering Wheel awards in Germany and said that the new factory would be in Berlin. He further added that the plan proposed to have the factory somewhere close to the new airport in Berlin alongside a design center in the same area.
Global expansion for Tesla
Elon further added that everyone was aware of the credibility of German engineering and said that it was a major factor influencing their decision to have the factory be built in Germany. He said that the plan to establish a design and an engineering center in Berlin is because the city housed some of the best art in the world.
The news of the new Gigafactory comes at a time when the automaker has been making global expansions such as the factory they set up in Shanghai, China alongside stating that they would be producing 1,50,000 cars in a single year in a total of 168 working days of the company.
According to the automaker's representatives stated that the low-cost Model 3 vehicles at the Shanghai manufacturing unit are already in the process of moving through the assembly lines on a trial basis. Musk also mentioned the big stamping machines and in-operation paint shops in the manufacturing units.
He also stated about a new building being constructed that will handle house the battery and module production units. According to reports, Tesla is hoping to churn out 1000 a week from the factory. It will also manufacture Model Y cars, an affordable crossover model at the Shanghai plant.
'China will play a major role'
According to reports, China will play a major role in deciding the automaker's presence in the country, Despite China's trade war with the United States of America, the Chinese nation has relaxed electric car regulations. Tesla is set to be the first foreign carmaker in the country to produce vehicles without a domestic partner.
