Opposition politician Alexey Navalny wrote a sarcastic post Tuesday following reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin had allegedly said Navalny could have poisoned himself.

The French daily Le Monde reported Tuesday, citing unnamed sources, that Putin suggested to French President Emmanuel Macron in a phone call that Navalny may have poisoned himself and that he had faked illnesses in the past.

"The ultimate goal of my canny plan was to die in the Omsk hospital and end up in an Omsk morgue, where they would have determined my cause of death as 'he lived long enough,'" Navalny wrote in a tongue-in-cheek post Tuesday.

"But Putin outplayed me," he added.

The opposition figure was earlier evacuated from Siberia to a clinic in Berlin after falling ill in an airplane on August 22.

He spent over three weeks in a coma and was finally discharged Wednesday after regaining motor skills and his condition improved.
