Warsaw Mayor says voters to decide between 'open' Poland and leader that 'still divides'
Polish President Andrzej Duda and his challenger Rafal Trzaskowski are set to face each other in the second round of elections, according to the projection of an exit poll.
Polish President Andrzej Duda and his challenger Rafal Trzaskowski are set to face each other in the second round of elections, according to the projection of an exit poll.
According to the projection by the Ipsos polling firm, the populist incumbent Duda won 41.8% of the vote and polled ahead of Trzaskowski's 30.4% in Sunday’s ballot.
Speaking to supporters after the first round of voting, centrist Warsaw Mayor Trzaskowski said that voters would soon have to decide between "a Poland that is open" or a leader that "still divides."
The result, if confirmed, paves the way for a runoff on July 12.
Poland’s state electoral commission has said it would release the final official results of the first round of voting by Wednesday.
