French, Lebanon troops clean up Beirut blast debris

French and Lebanese army troops are working around the clock to clean up the debris that was left after the the massive explosion that rocked the port of Beirut on Aug. 4.

Around 400 French troops and 150 military vehicles are assisting the Lebanese army in the cleaning operations at

the port.

Commander of the works regiment at the Lebanese army Colonel Youssef Haidar said that no date could be specified for the end of the operations as they face administrative obstacles with the merchandise at the devastated area.

"Anyone who has merchandise here must come and take them, so we can start a major cleaning operation," he said.

It has been three weeks since a catastrophic explosion ripped through Beirut, killing nearly 200 people and rendering thousands homeless.

Lebanon's government, which is supported by the militant Hezbollah group and its allies, resigned on August 10 and continues to serve in a caretaker capacity.
