German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Austria attack and US elections

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas condemned on Tuesday the shooting attack in Vienna and wished the US a ''fair, quiet, and above all, a good election day.''He said he spoke by phone with Alexander Schallenberg, Austria's foreign minister, and assured him of Germany's support.

Monday night's attack in Vienna left five people dead, including a gunman. Maas was addressing a news conference in Berlin alongside visiting Kosovan foreign minister Meliza Haradinaj Stublla. Speaking about the U.S. presidential elections, Maas said that ''no matter what the result is we need a functioning transatlantic partnership."We want a 'new deal' in this partnership,'' he said.
