Germany appears to have lowered the Coronavirus death rate

Observers are questioning how Germany has managed to keep the number of it's virus deaths relatively low, compared to other European countries, according to a report by British broadcaster, Sky News.

Experts believe a combination of strict measures, extensive testing and a strong health care system has helped Germany keep its death rate under 1%, Sky reported.

Virologist Rolf Kaiser believes the country had more time before the virus reached there, and hence has been able to deal with it more effectively.

Germany has closed nonessential shops and banned public gatherings of more than two people until April 20.

The nation has a large number of coronavirus cases but a relatively low death rate compared with Italy’s.

Its health system hasn’t been overwhelmed by severe cases so far.

Several German state governments have offered to take in patients from Italy.

Some have already arrived.

Germany also has taken in some patients from hard-hit eastern France.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.

The new coronavirus has caused a global pandemic that has sickened at least 605,000, killed 28,000 worldwide, crippled economies and forced restrictions on the movement of millions of people in an effort to stop the virus from spreading further and overwhelming health care systems.
