As the ongoing session of  UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, India is scheduled to face Pakistan over Jammu and Kashmir. This is the 42nd session of UNHRC from September 9-12. A high-level Indian delegation led by Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria and Secretary East Vijay Thakur Singh will face-off Pakistani delegation and hold meetings with groups various countries to counter Pakistan's allegations on human rights violations in Kashmir. After the abrogation of Article 370 by Indian government, Pakistan has been alleging human rights violations and has been trying to raise the issue at international platforms. It has also written letters to the UN citing the alleged atrocity and lockdown in the Kashmir valley after the end of special status enshrined under Article 370. India, however, has rebutted the claims made by Pakistan and called the letters 'not worth the page it is written on'.

In the ongoing session, Pakistan will once again flag the issue of Jammu and Kahsmir - India's decision to abrogate Article 370 and bifurcate the state into two union territories. Pak Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that they will continue to speak against India's atrocity in Kashmir.

While UN High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet in her address on Monday,  said she was "deeply concerned", Un Secretary General has maintained that there should not be any third-party involvement in the issue. Bachelet said on Monday that she is concerned over the "impact of recent actions" by the Indian government on the "human rights of Kashmiris" including the detention of political leaders and activists in Jammu and Kashmir. However, UN Secretary general Antonio Guterres statement following the abrogation last month had stated: "The Secretary-General has been following the situation in Jammu and Kashmir with concern and makes an appeal for maximum restraint," Guterres' spokesman Stephane Dujarric said. Dujarric specifically said that the Secretary-General " recalled the 1972 Agreement on bilateral relations between India and Pakistan, also known as the Shimla Agreement, which states that the final status of Jammu and Kashmir is to be settled by peaceful means" in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations. The Secretary General did not offer his good offices nor did he make any offer to mediate between India and Pakistan on Kashmir.
