'A danger to society': PM Modi reiterates the horrors of deepfake at G20 virtual summit

Opening the virtual edition of the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concerns over the negative impact of Artificial Intelligence. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi addressed the leaders of the group of 20 nations virtually. The virtual meet was the follow-up to the grand summit which took place in New Delhi in September this year. While speaking on the epidemic of deep fakes, Prime Minister Modi insisted that the world should work together to establish global regulations on Artificial intelligence.
"The world is worried about the negative effects of AI. India thinks that we have to work together on the global regulations for AI,” Prime Minister Modi said in the opening remarks of the summit. “Understanding how dangerous deepfake is for society and individuals, we need to work forward. We want AI should reach the people, it must be safe for society,” he added.
PM Modi hails the success of G20
Apart from giving his take on a plethora of global issues, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the monumental changes that were made in the 18th edition of the summit held in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi recalled the time India assumed the presidency from Indonesia. “When on November 16 last year, Indonesian President Joko Widodo handed the ceremonial gavel to me, I had said we will make G20 inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented and decisive. In one year, we have together achieved this. All of us together have taken G20 to newer heights,” he said. "In this world full of mistrust and challenges, it is this trust that binds us together. In the last year, we have expressed confidence in 'One Earth, One Family and One Future'. Moving away from controversies, we have worked with unity and cooperation," the prime minister furthered.
In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister mentioned that it is a “matter of pride” for India to include the African Union in the international body during its presidency. "It is a matter of pride for India that under its presidency, Africa was given a voice. In the last year in the G20, Global South's voice has also been heard," PM Modi remarked. The Prime Minister concluded his assertion by saying that the G20 has increased the confidence in multilateralism and global governance reforms have been given a direction.
