In the virtual edition of the Group of 20 summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched upon the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. On Wednesday, PM Modi addressed the leaders from the G20 nations and expressed his concerns over the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

“In the past few months, we have encountered new challenges. The situation of insecurity and instability in West Asia is a matter of concern for everyone,” Prime Minister Modi said in the opening remarks. During his thought-provoking address, the Indian premier made it clear that terrorism is “unacceptable” and went on to condemn the death of civilians in the Israel-Hamas conflict. “Terrorism is unacceptable for all of us and loss of civilians is condemnable, no matter where it is happening. Today, we welcome the recent agreement on the release of hostages and we hope they are freed soon,” he added.

PM Modi insisted that the international community should ensure that the Israel-Hamas war does not turn into a regional conflict. “It is important to ensure that the Israel-Hamas war does not turn into a regional conflict. One family has the power to unite together and work towards peace,” PM Modi averred.

PM Modi lauds the success of G20

Reiterating the monumental changes that were made in the 18th edition of the summit held in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi recalled the time India assumed the presidency from Indonesia. “When on November 16 last year, Indonesian President Joko Widodo handed the ceremonial gavel to me, I had said we will make G20 inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented and decisive. In one year, we have together achieved this.  All of us together have taken G20 to newer heights,” he said. "In this world full of mistrust and challenges, it is this trust that binds us together. In the last year, we have expressed confidence in 'One Earth, One Family and One Future'. Moving away from controversies, we have worked with unity and cooperation," the prime minister furthered.

In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister mentioned that it is a “matter of pride” for India to include the African Union in the international body during its presidency. "It is a matter of pride for India that under its presidency, Africa was given a voice. In the last year in the G20, Global South's voice has also been heard," PM Modi remarked. The Prime Minister concluded his assertion by saying that the G20 has increased the confidence in multilateralism and global governance reforms have been given a direction.
