The largest network of providers of primary care, pediatric medical care and dental services in Vermont’s Rutland County has a new leader.

The Rutland Herald reports that Donald Reuther became the new CEO of Community Health, which served 75% of the people in Rutland County, on Dec. 2. He succeeds Grant Whitmer, the organization’s first and only other CEO.

Reuther said he inherited a “very solid organization,” but there is always room for improvement.

Preventive medicine is the best way to keep health care costs (affordable) for all the patients,“Reuther said. “We will be working on our quality program and taking it from great to even greater.”

Community Health, which also serves southern Addison county, has offices in Rutland, Brandon, Castleton, West Pawlet and Shoreham.

Reuther came to Rutland Baltimore Medical System, a federally qualified health center, where he was chief operating officer.

Reuther said the change from Baltimore to Rutland has been “heaven.”

“The quiet, the friendly, accommodating people, the beauty,“he said. “It is the most diametrically opposed change you can imagine.”
