Prominent Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong was bailed out of jail on Wednesday after being accused of participating in an unauthorized assembly and breaching of the anti-mask law which was enforced last October.

Wong said Chinese President Xi Jinping was pushing to silence the voice of the people of Hong Kong, a semi-autonomous territory.

"We just hope to send a clear signal to the world. Even if they try to arrest us, prosecute us and even lock us up in prison there's no reason for us to surrender," said Wong.

Wong made the comments in front of the East Law Court Building ahead of Chinese National Day, which falls on October 1.

Joshua Wong was arrested on 24 September and his court case is adjourned to December 18.
