The Hong Kong police fired tear gas at protestors who left bricks on the roads and disrupted morning trains on November 12 for the second day in a row as Hong Kong's five months of anti-government protests turned increasingly violent. The police and the anti-government protestors involved in a clash in the semi-autonomous territory. Several clashes were seen between the protestors and police in and around several varsity campuses as the classes were cancelled. The subways were partially closed and the passengers on one commuter train disembarked short of the station and were escorted along the tracks in the video shown on the Hong Kong television.
Tensions escalate in Hong Kong
Hong Kong has faced escalating vandalism against the shops and train stations and assaults by both protesters and pro-Beijing supporters on the other side during the recent days. The executive leader of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam called the blocking of the morning commute "a very selfish act". On Monday a police officer shot a man in the abdomen during a struggle with the protestors. In another neighborhood, a person was set on fire alive amid an argument. The Hong Kong hospital authorities said that both the men were in critical condition. Another video of an incident showed a policeman on a motorcycle riding through a group of protestors in an attempt to disperse the crowd.
Lam urges to stop the violence
The police said that the events are being investigated but backed up the officers' actions as necessary for their own safety. Lam pledged on Monday to stop the violence suggesting strict legal actions. Lam refused to accept the demands for political concessions. This is considered to be the second police shooting of a protestor since the beginning of the demonstrations. Police said they have arrested 260 people on Monday raising to 3,560 the number of arrests since the movement erupted in June.
