Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam announced Tuesday that she will be making a three-day trip to Beijing next week.

She emphasized that her trip to Beijing is solely discussing the economic future of Hong Kong.

Lam delayed her annual policy address from mid-October to supposedly mid or late November based on her plan to visit Beijing and get support for Hong Kong from China's central government.

She added that 12 protesters who were arrested in August will have to "face up to the consequences of that offence in that particular jurisdiction, that is the mainland jurisdiction."

The 12 were allegedly travelling illegally by boat to Taiwan when Chinese authorities detained them. They are now facing charges for illegal border crossings in Shenzhen, a southern Chinese city that borders Hong Kong, a semi-autonomous Chinese territory.

Lam said that the Hong Kong government is being very conscientious and very robust in refuting any of the accusations by overseas campaigners and activists.

When asked about the surrender of Chan Tong-kai, who is accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend in Taiwan in February 2018, Lam said that it takes the Taiwanese authorities to issue him a visa to be able to surrender to Taiwan.

Hong Kong government has no authority on the visa issue.
