South African delegate Zodwa Lallie said that India is a “strong part” of the South African fabric as she stressed on the strong ties between India and the African nation. In a conversation with ANI, the South African official lauded the strong ties between the two nations. She also noted how Mahatma Gandhi spent his formative years in South Africa and how he became an inspiration to many South African delegations. On Sunday, President Cyril Ramaphosa concluded his working visit to India for the G20 summit. “We have a very big Indian community in South Africa. India is a very strong part of our national fabric. The Mahatma (Gandhi) spent some of his formative years in our country,” Lallie asserted. “Relations between us are very long and deep... Lots of our stalwarts spent time in India. It's friendly except on the sports field,” she added. The remarks from the South African delegate came during her visit to the G20 craft expo which was held in the Bharat Mandapam. During her conversation with ANI, the South African official went on to hail the craftsmanship of the Indian artisans. “I think it is absolutely marvellous. It is an absolute showcase of craftsmanship and the beauty of handmade items from India,” Lallie remarked. “What is great is the way it empowers women from rural areas. More than anything else, it's just a beautiful showcase,” she added. The South African President’s office shared the visuals of him boarding the South African presidential aircraft. “His Excellency President @CyrilRamaphosa concludes his working visit to India where he was attending the #G20 Leaders’ Summit,” the president’s office wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. Ramaphosa called the trip a success after it was announced on Saturday that the African Union will assume full membership in the G20. “We are delighted that the #G20 has accepted the @_AfricanUnion as a member of the #G20. Global reconstruction in the wake of the #COVID19 pandemic presents a unique opportunity to accelerate the transition to low-carbon, climate-resilient, sustainable societies,” Ramaphosa asserted. “Developing economies are bearing the brunt of climate change, despite carrying the least responsibility for this crisis. As African and other developing economy countries, we face the task of meeting our climate commitments in the midst of significant developmental challenges like poverty, inequality and unemployment,” he added.
