Jaishankar-Lavrov Moscow talks: Navigating bilateral cooperation and global dynamics

India: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to hold negotiations with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Wednesday, December 27 as confirmed by the Russian Embassy in India. The ministers will focus on the current and future areas of bilateral cooperation and will discuss the schedule of upcoming contacts.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the Russian Embassy in India wrote, "Russia's Deputy Prime Minister -- Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov and Indian Minister of External Affairs @DrSJaishankar discussed the development of trade and economic cooperation between & at the exhibition forum "Russia" at the #VDNH."
Jaishankar and Lavrov to meet today
- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov held negotiations in Moscow on Wednesday.
- The emphasis was on promoting the further building of sustainable transport, logistics, and banking and financial chains, along with expanding the use of national currencies in mutual settlements
- Issues of cooperation in high-tech areas, including space and nuclear ones, as well as joint projects for the development of hydrocarbons on the Arctic shelf and in the Russian Far East, were discussed.
- The ministers compared notes on current international matters, including interaction within the United Nations (UN), Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and G20.
- The priorities of Russia's BRICS chairmanship in the coming year were also discussed.
- An in-depth exchange of views occurred on the issues of forming a fair security architecture in the Asia-Pacific region, the situation in Ukraine and Afghanistan, and the Palestinian-Israeli confrontation.
- Moscow and New Delhi reaffirmed their commitment to multipolarity, supporting political and economic sovereignty amid the spread of neocolonial practices.
- On Tuesday, Jaishankar and Russia's Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov discussed the development of trade and economic cooperation between Russia and India.
- Topical issues of interaction in trade, investment, financial and banking, transport and logistics spheres, as well as areas of energy and food security, were addressed.
- An MoU was signed between the Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare (Roszdravnadzor) of Russia and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation of India.
- Earlier on Monday, Jaishankar met with leading representatives of the Russian strategic community, discussing connectivity, multilateralism, big power competition, and regional conflicts.
- They spoke about the importance of rebalancing and the emergence of multipolarity.
- Jaishankar's four-day visit to Russia took place from December 25-29.
