Tehran: Iran has dismissed U.S. allegations of an assassination plot against former President Donald Trump , calling them ‘scripted’ and comparing the claims to a ‘third-rate comedy’. Denying the accusations, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Aragchi said the 'scenario is fabricated.'“Now, with another election, a new scenario is fabricated with the same goal: as a killer does not exist in reality, scriptwriters are brought in to manufacture a third-rate comedy. Who could believe that a so-called assassin is sitting in Iran, communicating online with the FBI?” he said, referring to the US Department of Justice’s accusations.The US Department of Justice recently charged Farhad Shakeri, 51, from Iran, alleging he was an operative of the Iranian regime tasked with orchestrating assassination plots, including one targeting Trump ahead of the presidential election.Aragchi also brought up the recent killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, after the Iranian President's inauguration, he said, “Everyone knows who was behind this and why.” Iran and Hamas have accused Israel of the assassination, though Israel, currently engaged in conflict with Hamas in Gaza, has not officially responded to the allegations.Way Forward Begins with Mutual Respect: Iran Foreign MinisterAragchi stated that Iran respects Americans’ choice of Trump as their elected leader and sees a choice in the future path with Iran. "The American people have made their decision, and we respect their right to elect the President of their choice. The way forward begins with mutual respect," he said.He reiterated Iran’s stance on nuclear weapons, stressing, “Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons—this is a policy grounded in Islamic principles and our security considerations. Building confidence requires efforts from both sides; it’s not a one-way street.”Following the 1979 takeover of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Iran were severed in 1980, and the two nations have had no formal diplomatic ties since.
