ISIS chief Baghdadi's remains disposed of says US Gen. Mark Milley

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley claimed that the remains of  ISIS leader Abu Bakr-al Baghdadi were disposed of 'appropriately'

In the Pentagon conference, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley while addressing the reporters claimed that the remains of ISIS leader Abu Bakr-al Baghdadi were ‘disposed of appropriately’. The conference followed the successful operation executed by the US military forces to hunt the ISIS leader Al-Baghdadi, who chooses using a suicide vest rather than be captured by the American armed forces.

Baghdadi’s remains properly disposed of

Mark Milley during his speech said that ‘Baghdadi’s remains were transported to a secure facility to confirm his identity with forensic DNA testing and the disposal of his remains has been done. It is complete and was handled appropriately.” Milley also said in his statement that “officials tested the remains to ensure it was the ISIS leader and disposed of the remains appropriately. The chairman also said two men were detained from the compound and are in U.S. custody.” While answering the questions Miley said that “his remains were disposed of appropriately in accordance with our SOPs, and in accordance with the law of armed conflict.”

Baghdadi’s headquarters becomes the site for future investigations

One of the reporters also questioned about Baghdadi’s headquarters and how much the US special operation forces were able to take away from the site. General Mark Milley taking the question said, “There was material taken away. I -- I don't want to characterise exactly what or how much yet until it gets exploited properly, but as a matter of course, we always do sensitive site exploitation on any objective anywhere to do that. As to whether it was his headquarters, it was an area in which he was staying on a consistent basis.”

Materials collected will be properly exploited 

General asserted that all the documents and materials collected from his headquarters will be properly scrutinized in order to create a roadmap on what he was planning for the future. He said, “It would be best not to for operational reasons because that information needs to be exploited properly for any follow-on missions that we may choose to do.”
