33 Killed in Israeli Strike Targeting Gaza School 'Housing' Hamas Militants

Tel Aviv: On Thursday, June 6, at least 33 people were killed after the Israeli military attacked what it called a "Hamas compound" inside of a school in the Gaza Strip, AP reported citing Hamas-affiliated media.

The military said its fighter jets struck the school run by the United Nations, UNRWA, which provides aid to the Palestinians. 

The figure was revealed by Hamas' al-Aqsa television broadcaster, without offering a source for the toll.

However, the information about the strike in the Nuseirat area remained contradictory, the news agency could not immediately confirm details about the strike.

The military claimed responsibility for the attack but without presenting any evidence. 

“Before the strike, a number of steps were taken to reduce the risk of harming uninvolved civilians during the strike, including conducting aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence information,” it said.

The attack occurred at the built-up ‘Nuseirat refugee camp’ in the middle of the Gaza Strip.

Tensions are rising between Israel and Hamas after the terrorist group attacked the former on October 7 that killed at least 1,200 people with 250 others taken hostage. The Israeli military campaign in the Gaza Strip has killed at least 36,000 Palestinians, with hundreds of others killed in operations in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
