BREAKING: Kamala Harris Expected to Concede Defeat to Trump in Address to Nation
Kamala Harris May Call Trump Tonight to Concede Defeat, says reports.
Washington: U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver a speech conceding defeat in the presidential election to Donald Trump at 6 p.m. (2300 GMT) on Wednesday, sources told Reuters.
Kamala Harris replaced President Joe Biden in the presidential race after he withdrew in July due to age-related concerns.
Donald Trump was elected as 47th U.S. president on Tuesday, four years after he was voted out of power.
Donald Trump secured his second presidency after reaching 270 Electoral College votes, with his victory in the key swing state of Wisconsin pushing him past the threshold.
As of 8 a.m. ET (1300 GMT), Edison Research projected that Trump had secured 279 electoral votes, while Harris had 223, with several states still to be tallied.
As Trump began to make steady gains, Kamala Harris canceled her planned election night appearance at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she had studied as an undergraduate.
