Kim Jong Un, the Supreme Leader of North Korea, invited United States President Donald Trump to visit Pyongyang in a letter. President Trump himself announced on August 9 that he received 'a beautiful letter' which constituted of three pages and was handwritten from top to bottom. He went on to say that he would reveal the matters of the letter if he could. Reportedly, this letter comes as a hope amidst the restrained talks on denuclearisation. The leaders have already met three times, but the decisions to narrow the gap between their demands is yet to come.

Kim Jong Un's letter

In the letter, which was sent on the third week of August, reportedly spoke of his willingness for a third summit and sent an invitation to President Trump to visit the capital of North Korea, Pyongyang. Donald Trump had mentioned the first letter but evidently none of the US officials spoke about the second letter that was also sent in August. It is reportedly being hoped by North Korea's Foreign Ministry that this meeting with the working-level US officials will be a good meeting. It is scheduled to happen in a few weeks. The outcome of the meeting would depend on the United States.

Earlier meetings

The US President and North Korean leader have met three times since June 2018, in order to discuss and resolve the crisis over North Korea's missile and nuclear programs. The progress of these discussions is currently stalled.  Their first and the second meet was in a formal summit. During the second meet, they failed to bridge the gap between the US and North Korea. When they met in Vietnam in February, the US demanded complete denuclearisation while North Korean demands included relief from the sanctions. They for the third time in the Demilitarized Zone that lies between the two Koreas on June 30, where they agreed to resume the working-level talks which are yet to happen. Since their third meet, North Korea has reportedly tested several projectiles.
