In a striking display of consumerism clashing with natures rawest climes, thousands of tonnes of knock-off clothing from Europe and the US are being piled up in a mass dump of unwanted fast-fashions in the remote vastness of Chile's Atacama desert Monday.

A clandestine giant dump emerges from the hills of Atacama desert as tons of discarded clothes are left behind by local merchants.

The port of Iquique, in the far north of Chile, is the duty-free zone that receives tons of used clothing bought by traders.

In the process of choosing the most attractive garments for sale, these small traders discard what they feel will not be to the taste of their buyers in this huge rubbish dump.

According to local authorities, the dump is not authorized and they're working for its definitive closure.

According to official figures Chile has imported 59 thousand tons of clothing and shoes so far in 2021.
