UK: Man Arrested In Leicester Under Terrorism Offences, Incited 'Anti-Hindu' Sentiments in 2022
The accused identified as Majid Novsarka (36), also known as Majid Freeman was also the the main instigator behind the ‘anti-hindu’ unrest in Leicester.
Leicester (UK): A man was arrested by the Leicestershire police under charges of “encouragement of terrorism” on Tuesday.
The accused identified as Majid Novsarka (36), also known as Majid Freeman was also the the main instigator behind the ‘anti-hindu’ unrest in Leicester.
In a statement, Leicestershire police said, “Man has been charged following a warrant being executed at an address in Cecil Road, Leicester, yesterday morning (Tues 9 July). Majid Novsarka, also known as Majid Freeman, 36, of Cecil Road, Leicester, has been charged with encouragement of terrorism and supporting a proscribed organisation.”
Police added that Majid Freeman was later released on bail and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on July 24.
What happened in 2022 Leicester Unrest
Hindus and Muslim communities clashed in the city of Leicester, England. The unrest began when around 300 men, with many of them covering their faces, were chanting slogans falsely associated with “Hindu nationalism”.
Subsequently Muslim men also held protests in the city. It led to escalating tensions and violence between the two communities in different areas of the Leicester.
