Actor Mark Ruffalo recently weighed in on the internet debate about DeGeneres being friends with the former Republican US president George W Bush. In a tweet, Ruffalo claims that one cannot talk about kindness until George Bush is brought to justice for the crimes of the Iraq War.

Ellen DeGeneres was spotted sitting next to the former President of the United States George W. Bush at a Cowboy's game on October 6, which had sparked a lot of controversy amongst her fans and other internet users.

Netizen's don't support Ruffalo's tweet

However, many netizens did not support him. One follower replied to the comment saying, “You could hold every President responsible for war crimes.” Another netizen said, “This is the problem. We simply roll over and accept whatever “reality” is pushed. I applaud Ellen because while her humanity isn't popular at the moment in some circles, it doesn't make it any less strive-worthy. Hate should never win, even when you're sure you're right.”

Ellen justifies herself

The talk show host received some negative attention after a picture of the former President and DeGeneres laughing together went viral. Netizens seemed to be angry as George W. Bush supported a constitutional amendment that would have defined marriage as a union between one man and one woman. DeGeneres on her talk show on October 8 defended her actions and told the audiences that she is friends with George Bush and a lot of other people who don't share the same beliefs as her. She also admitted to secretly cheering for the Packers while sitting in the Cowboys' suite. In her monologue, she claimes that the fans thought, “Why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president?”, to which she replied that she doesn't agree with someone on everything and that doesn't mean she's not going to be friends with them.

“I’m friends with George Bush. In fact, I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. Just because I don’t agree with someone on everything doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be friends with them. When I say, ‘Be kind to one another,’ I doesn’t mean only the people that think the same way that you do. I mean, ‘Be kind to everyone, it doesn’t matter.’”
