Scuffles at anti-Netanyahu protest in Jerusalem
Israeli police say they arrested four protesters for causing disturbances during a gathering of about a thousand Israelis in Jerusalem on Saturday night.
Israeli police say they arrested four protesters for causing disturbances during a gathering of about a thousand Israelis in Jerusalem on Saturday night.
They assembled despite the cool, wet weather to continue months of protests demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Police were seen dragging away protesters from Paris Square in central Jerusalem.
Protesters gathered outside Netanyahu's official residence in Jerusalem, the focal point of most of the demonstrations, while a similarly sized crowd protested outside Netanyahu's private home in the upscale coastal town of Caesaria.
Smaller gatherings took place at junctions and overpasses across Israel.
Protesters say Netanyahu should resign while he is on trial for corruption charges and accuse him of mishandling the country's coronavirus crisis.
The crisis has hit the economy hard and sent unemployment skyrocketing.
Many of the protesters are young people who have lost their jobs.
Some protesters carried makeshift submarines, referring to a graft scandal connected to the purchase of the warships and submarines from German conglomerate ThyssenKrupp.
